Workshop Overview

Spend five days and evenings immersed in jazz, working with top-notch instructors through sectionals, classroom sessions, masterclasses, and ensemble rehearsals. Our evening concert series highlights our talented faculty and guest presenters and will be followed by jam sessions with the artists. Check out our very talented core faculty, Take a look a the workshop schedule for an example day at camp.

For a second year running, the workshop will be held at the MacLaurin (Music) Building at the University of Victoria. For more details on parking, click here.

Fees

This year, we are offering more options during the workshop to address a wide range of musical needs.

Full Workshop - $649

For instrumentalists and vocalists interested in the full 5-day workshop, including 7 hours of instruction per day and tickets for all the concerts.

We have both an instrumental track and a vocal track for camp this year, recognizing the special needs of each group. If you are an instrumentalist but not interested in playing in combos, we have other exciting activities planned for those blocks, including large ensembles and the option of taking private lessons.

Half-Day Option - $399

For busy folks, we offer both a half-day option for $399, including tickets for the evening concerts and jam sessions. The Half-Day Option will allow someone who only wishes to attend classes in the morning or afternoon to access to all of our great programs.

Day Camper $150

If you’re only able to attend for one day or are interested in specific topics on a particular date, you can register for a single-day pass for $150.

Piano Boot Camp - $399

For pianists, we offer a “Piano Boot Camp” with acclaimed educator Linda Gould and others in the UVic piano lab.   If you are someone interested in expanding your facility and knowledge of the piano alongside other keen students, you’ll want to attend. Tickets are included for all the evening concerts and jams.

Bursaries

We have limited funding to assist deserving students in attending the Workshop.  Eligibility is determined by achievement and need.  A form is available for download here.  The deadline for submissions is June 30th.

Deadlines

Note that attendance is limited and will be determined by when you registered and what instrument you play.  Hold your spot with a refundable $100 deposit (the deadline for requesting a refund is July 1st).  When registering, you will be asked to pay a $100 deposit, complete a form, and indicate which of the track options you are interested in.  Information for the final payment, which is due by July 15th, will be emailed to you.

Ensembles

So that we can best determine your level, instrumentalists will be asked to complete a short quiz which will help us place you in the most appropriate ensemble and help you choose the best theory and improvisation classes.

Note that to join our most advanced combos, including the John Lee combo, submitting a video for our audition process will be required.

Accommodation & Billeting

We are currently exploring housing options on campus for out-of-town attendees.  This would not be chaperoned and therefore suitable for adults and families.

As well, billets may be arranged for younger students with other attending families.  A per diem to cover meal costs is suggested at $250 for the week. If help is needed with housing, please reach out to us by email. Click here to contact us.
